Saksit is the leading tiger/large carnivore researcher in Thailand. He has extensive field experience on projects that range from carnivore ecology and behavior to habitat use of both carnivores and their prey. His current research is a long-term study of the ecology of the Indochinese tiger through the use of radio telemetry and GPS collaring techniques, camera trapping, and other methods.

Chachawan Pisdamkham
Chief, Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary

Chachawan initiated the idea of complex-level management in Thailand and was the director of the Western Forest Complex Project, a regional model for landscape-level conservation. In his role as chief of Thailand's premier wildlife conservation area, he has implemented a management strategy that emphasizes effective conservation with the involvement of local people. Chachawan's recent achievements include an overhaul of Huai Kha Khaeng's visitor and training facilities that showcase it's Natural World Heritage site status and provide unparalleled facilities for training protected area staff from all over the country. David is a renowned tiger conservation biologist with field experience in nearly every part of the tiger's range. His work has focused on tiger ecology and behavior, landscape-scale tiger distribution and habitat modeling; and large-scale tiger and prey monitoring. His current efforts include attempts to develop the capacity of both government and local people to monitor biodiversity in a participatory conservation model that includes local people as citizen "rangers". As a senior consultant, Dave brings over 30 years of international tiger field research experience to the project.

Sean has been involved in numerous conservation and ecological investigations and is a consultant to the World Bank on Open Source GIS. He is a geographical modeling specialist and has developed individual-based models to explore management options for tigers and West Nile virus. As a consultant to the Thailand Tiger Project, Sean is helping to explore management options for conserving tigers on both the protected area and landscape level.

In addition to other official duties, Achara is part of the Thailand Tiger Project research team. She has conducted research on tiger diet and is currently initiating a tiger prey study that will compare and critique existing methods of estimating and modeling tiger prey abundance. Achara has provided training for both Thai and American researchers at Khao Nang Rum.

Pornchi is an expert in animal handling and capture. He has developed a variety of traps and wrist snares for birds, primates and tigers and has recently patented a unique tiger foot snare which is increasingly being used in tiger research projects in the region. Pornchi has traveled internationally as a trapping/animal handling advisor to other tiger research projects.


Pairoj Limcharoen
Outreach and Media Consultant

Pairoj is an education, outreach and media specialist who has been involved in conservation efforts in the Western Forest Complex for over 15 years. He is developing conservation education materials that link the ecological services of a healthy Tennasserim ecoregion to the well being of tigers and human populations.


Ankana Mekwilai
Outreach and Conservation Education Officer, Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary

Ankana is currently developing a multi-pronged strategy to implement the PTT - EP funded Tiger Conservation Education Project.

Peter is a conservation biologist and educator with training experience in the US, Thailand, and Cambodia. After completing a landscape-scale survey of tiger and tiger prey in western Thailand, Peter has contributed to the development of Thailand's Tiger Conservation Action Plan and has worked with Thailand's Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation to develop carnivore monitoring programs in several protected areas. He now specializes in developing integrated conservation information systems.

Jesse has a background in conservation science and environmental education, working in these capacities for the US National Park Service in Redwood National Park, California; the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, Minnesota; and Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska. In 2006 Jesse spent 3 months in Thailand working closely with Thailand Tiger Project researchers and faculty and graduate students from Mahidol University to put in place the logistical framework for his upcoming PhD research.
